I strongly feel that software should be able to be patented and that strong patents help to minimize patent infringement and improve patent enforcement. I believe software creators should be able to make money on their creations just like anyone else in this country!

“Not being much of a lawyer or an expert on these things”

Paul Graham's 'essay' on software patents is confused, naïve and economically illiterate. Saurabh's advice: “Whoever wants to argue about the efficacy of software patents should make it a point to read this essay by Paul Graham before forming & voicing strong opinions.” is very poor advice indeed. Phil Salin's famous essay is a far superior essay on this subject, but as far as “efficacy” is concerned, one really ought to have read the historical, philosophical and esp. the economic literature anyway. Summary: software patents are indeed evil. Legal expertise is helpful but it is neither required nor - ultimately - in the least bit relevant.
