MTNL is twice as stingy as BSNL in ADSL data caps

August 6th, 2005 · Comments · General

Take a look at the following table showing the difference between similar ADSL broadband plans of BSNL and MTNL – the two public sector telecom companies of India. MTNL only operates in the cities of Delhi and Mumbai, while BSNL operates every else. Delhi and Mumbai are probably the two largest commercial cities of the country, but as the graph shows, MTNL believes that they should therefore pay twice as much as the rest of the country.

  • Thanks man, just what I was looking for. Worked like a charm Thanks so much…

Now BSNL has an unlimited plan for Rs 900 a month, but MTNL still charges per MB download

  • My personal experience tells me that MTNL is India’s telecom nightmare!

Where private operators like Reliance and Tata Indicom provide you with a new connection within hours, the speed of getting a new connection from MTNL depends solely on the persistence of your follow-ups and your willingness to pay baksheesh. And yes, you need to find time and personally go to your local telephone exchange as MTNL Customer Service Department DOES NOT entertain any letters or telephone calls!

I applied for MTNL Triband NU Plan in December’05. 4 LONG MONTHS have passed and I am STILL WAITING for that installation day to arrive. Please read more about my personal saga with nightmarish MTNL at my personal blog: www.vishaltayal.com.</p>

    Hi Vipen,
Could you tell me your experience with VOIP in Delhi- I am planning to do the same but not sure if MTNL triband DSL is blocking SIP

  • Hello,

I came across your web-site quite by accident. I posted an article titled "Bangalored!" on my blog and decided to Google for that term, which is how I landed up here :-)

    Great writing!

  • From others experience, it seems that Airtel broadband is the better of the whole bad lot. Some years back I had some good experience with Hathway, and I remember it being operational in your area too.

  • As long as we are ruled by a centralized setup, with no competition what else do you expect?

I am in the US and will be coming to Delhi near the end of August, I need to have a reliable internet connection, and atleast Skype (I hope they have not blocked it), or my Vonage VOIP, for communication with the US.

I live in GK-I, S Block. Can you advise about the state of Net availability, costs etc.

    Thanks,
    Vipen
