Pathetic Tata Indicom Broadband service in Delhi

Seems that my blog is turning out to be a general gripe column. I don’t think I should be blamed for it though. Our country is full of technology companies who are only out to fleece people. When you use the services of a company who considers quality of customer service as a variable business decision, you know you have seen a company who is just after your money.

After my awful experience with Sify, I decided to try out Tata Indicom. I was under the naive assumption that Sify’s franchise model and lack of any quality control on their franchisees is the reasons behind their pathetic existence. But Tata Indicom proved me wrong – they showed that even owning your own network with your own people managing it, is no reason to provide a bare minimum level of service.

Here is my track record with Tata Indicom Broadband.

  1. I applied for a connection on 10th of June, and paid money for their router based connection. I finally got it installed and working on 28th or 29th. Almost three weeks to get a connection! That is pathetic by *any* ISPs service. However, I was happy that my connection was up at least.
  2. For about 10 days the connection went well.
  3. From the third week onwards I started seeing losses in the last mile. I started actively monitoring the line quality using smokeping. Here is the graph for those few days.
  4. I file a complaint. There was a person here next day, and for a moment i was impressed. However, the impression was shortlived. The tech support guy listened to what I had to say, looked at my graphs, didn’t believe me, and started a ping from my computer to the local DSLAM peer. He saw the losses in line and said that he will escalate it to his senior.(Couldn’t this have been checked from the NOC itself?). But what happened later was priceless. The guy sat there at the computer and logged into his company trouble ticketing system and started making notes of his assignments for the rest of his day. After 15 minutes, I decided that I have been polite enough and told him to take his personal work elsewhere. He asked for two *more* minutes, and left after that.
  5. On 24th July, my line went down completely. I waited for it to come up, and finally filed a complaint on 25th morning that my link was down. What happened next was surreal. I kept calling up customer care, and they kept promising to send a reminder to the tech team, and assured that the problem will be solved with 24 hours. It has been eight 24 hours since then, and connection is still down. In between I got two calls from some lady who wanted to ask me independently if it is still down, and promised to send a guy to my place. I kept myself to the house all day, but nobody appeared.
  6. Today morning I got a call from another guy who asked me if my complaint about the losses in line(filed two weeks back) has been solved. If he had been physically in front of me, I would have strangled him.

What I didn’t realize while taking the connection, was that Tata Indicom Broadband is just Dishnet DSL with a new name, and it comes with Dishnet DSL’s “renowed” or shall we say notorious service record. Right now, in my last five weeks of subscription, the line has been unusable for two – that makes it a 20% downtime!

Oh yes, for all those on a bandwidth capped plan, watch out for Tata Indicom’s totally screwed up IP accounting! Thank goodness that I have an unlimited connection. Their account system actually shows that I have downloaded 5GB in these last five weeks that I have been a subscriber(remember? that I have actually used it for about two weeks?) The only heavy downloads I do is Debian, windows and anti-virus security updates! And this is priceless – on 25th, when i filed a complaint about my line being down (which they acknowledged), I am supposed to have downloaded 150MB of data. Of course, my reporting this got me another trouble ticket number, which I am pretty sure is right down in their list of priorities. But for those on a bandwidth capped account from them, … my sympathies.

I am again in the market looking for a good DSL provider, and I see none in the capital of the country! Keeping my fingers crossed, I looked at MTNL’s plans again .. but no, they still haven’t changed their laughable download limits in their plans (256kbps with a bandwidth cap of 400MB, anyone?)

Meanwhile I am spending hundreds every day on the dialup again, for the last one week. :(

    u need to pay whole bill at some STATION and then come back to CENTRE; (thats what they call)

    my ordeal :

    i went to indicom centre near FORUM , kormangala , bangalore…. to return the handset and complete the formalities.
    i had gone there thrice earlier to confirm and reconfirm their process… where i was told that i need to send a mail or send a letter. as the landline was in my brothers name… and as he has left india…. so i had this letter stating i had full authority to carry out the formalities.

    when i talked to these people… initially they didnt accept the letter… hahahaha … remember in my last three visits they had asked for the letter…. now… when i told them .. that i had come earlier regarding this…. so this CCR says.. SIR WE HAVE APROCESS FOR EVERYTHING >>> WE CANT GO BEYOND IT>>>> AND HENCE THIS CANT BE DONE>… i cudnt believe my ears….. the same BASTARD , in my last visit had asked for the letter…. also they asked me to keep handset at my old location from where another bastard will come to take it…. hahaha … ( they expected me to stay in my old house … just to welcome a tata indicom official to pay homage to my devine abode, RASCALS)

    when i started shouting … they realized importance…. suddenly eveyrone sprung into action… got my conenction to INACTIVE stage … put it for disconection .. asked me to pay the bill…. took the letter … and then took the handset as well … hehehehehe .. earlier same people were giving me the definition of PROCESS.

    Now, after eveyrhting was done .. they asked me to write reasons for disconnection …. i wrote TEN .. and the space was over……. what the hell! the last reason that i wrote was…. >> U GUYS DONT HAVE NEOUGH SPACE IN THIS LETTER>>>> SO BETTER MAKE SPACE FOR PPL TO WRITE THE TRUTH !

    now…. again i started talking to this CSR …. and asked him what exactly he meant by process…. and how come my work got done… when that was agaisnt their PROCESS and POLICIES>
    i asked them to read their MISSION >>> UPTO 1 Million HAPPY CUSTOMERS in INDIA…. i was like … remove the word happy to SAD .. and i bet .. in coming years… yu guys wont be able to sustain your current customers… forget 1 million INDIANS.

    surely tata indicom has proved what exactly customer harrassment is .. and they are really good at that !

    i request all those people who are using tata indicom … to throw this shitiest service out from your monthly BILL! … these people are LOOTERS !

    this is my thid date in case against tataindicombroadband in district forum X of delhi and their advocate has ridiculously replied that they are the best broadband service provider in our country! so i have to submit my rejoinder on 16-01-07 in which i am going to flesh a print out of this page as well.     see you cant relie on the salesman even … u never KNOW … may be the cell has already been used in some terroristic activity or some ransom shit ! go to tata indicom people ! ask for all CALLS history ! chek up wid the numbers.. threaten them that u will go into police ! or better call police to be on safer side… GRILL AND SHOUT at them… thats the only language they understand !

    Well folks Tata is the company that has 25% stake in VSNL and is taking it down the road to ruin. I had a VSNL Dial up during the old days and I must the PSU’ s service was excellent. But as soon as Tata bought their above stake things started going badly wrong. I was told that they would not carry forward my dial up services remaining balance. But a couple of months later I find out that they reversed that policy. By then I lost about 1000 hrs of balance. That is when I decided that I did not want to have anything to do with such a poor sucker service. In the meanwhile my father took up a Tata Indicomm wireless phone service and we are still enjoying the benefits of superior poor service.

    I should have seen this site before getting a connection from Tata Indicom. I have taken a prepaid broadband internet connection from Tata Indicom. (Biggest blunder in my life) Two hours after the connection was given, the link went down. Now its the fifth day after I’ve registered the complaint, still no action from their side. I went through all the harassment that u guys have mentioned in your comments.

    I have sent the details to my lawyer for filing a case against them. Lets see how it works. I would require some help from you guys. Please send me the details of your concerns and your contact details to my mail id – baghat23@yahoo.com. I have a solid proof which can justify our facts.

    Their promises to get you a broadband connection within a week is not to be relied upon. Once your money is stuck (about Rs. 2000), it takes lot of pains to recover it back.

    Guys, I don’t know about other cities. But in Kolkata, Tata Indicom Broadband rocks!
    I am using Unlimites 256kbps plan since September’2006 (after using dataone for 6 months) and believe me guys i didn’t find a single day blackout! I regularly download and my average monthly usage is 55-60GB (both download-upload due to torrents ;-) ).
    But again , this is the situation in Kolkata, I do not know about other cities.

    I took the connection from Tata Indiacom .It was a three month package plan which costed me around 2300/-.
    It proved to be my worst experience with the TATA group. I never got more then 4-5 daya of uninterrupted service
    Even then i continud, but after around one month it was totally disconned.
    I made call to them but they were unable to start the service even after taking 1 month.
    Ilodged 30-40 complains to their call centre. Each time i use to get the same response that they r working on my proble.
    Even ther service staff are worst lot. They alwaya keep their mobile switched-off and if it is on then they will not pick it.

    I i have been totally cheated because i paid for 3 month and i hardly got the service for a month.

    So can anyone suggested me that what legal action can i take against them

    I agree. It is THE worst ISP in Bangalore atleast. I got the installation done on 30th December and its 16th Jan now but still no connectivity. I won’t bore you all with the long story but according to them everything is working perfectly, I have uploaded some 400 MBs and I MYSELF have told one of their tech staff that my connection is working perfectly!

    They are not into broadband business, instead they operate a conning scheme in its name. Check out what I went through (and still am) here:

    wow! this thread started in 2005 and after 2 years, the condition is worse! Same thing happened to me. Services are pathetic!!! Nobody attends……so much so that they don’t evenhave a separate link for complaints on their web-site.

    Airtel rocks!!! But am stuck with TATA as the area am living in, doesn’t have a service provider from Airtel. Am based in Delhi, and the site engineers here think very high of themselves, waiting for some chauffeur driven limousine to collect them from their homes to site.

    Certainly, life is not-so-good with TATAIndicom.

  31. Tata has institutionalised cheating. Book the phone, get a Chandni Chwok ka instrument and then get billed for no services. And then their call centre bitches named Julie, Pretty, Maggi etc keep calling you for money. Thereafter the street dogs from their recovery agency named raju, moti, guddu etc keep calling you. If you are nice and decent, they shit on you, if you bark back at them, they put their tails in their behind and say they will approach their lawyer. Every trick is tried to take out money including ringing up your office, relatives tec to tell them and emberass you. A decent man pays up. Is this how a company like Tata behaves. God (Zarathustra included), pls save tata. After all, it is (or was) our national pride.
    Or else, a donation campaign or candle light vigil at India gate should be undertaken to help our nations pride come out of the tata indicomm shit. Let us hope and pray to God that Tata Indicomm does not push the good name of TATA in shit permanenetly.

    I am 100% agreed with all you about Tataindicome worst services. I have been using various private vandor services for different kind of purposes but experiences with Tata Indicome Braodband is worst all of them…its so bad that i barely believed that anybody in TataIndicome works an hours in a day..might they are ppl busy in chit chatting or playing cards. I requested to renew my connection 1 month back but still they have’nt delivered this.

    I am really sorry that such things happen in Bangalore or wherever. In KOLKATA such thiings don’t
    I have a download speed of 13KBps and a ON AND ON 128 kbps line . They charged me some 4500 quids for that. I need to pass the bandwith limit if possible. Can anybody say how> OH AND BY THE WAY ALWAYS INSTALL THE DDSLAM IN YOU BUILDING. It helps inceremnt the stability and speed.

    I had applied for a BSNL “Broadband” connection in Madras. The phone (which is mandatory) arrived the very next day but the BB connection to about 3 weeks. It is humiliating to wait at their queues and get ‘educated’ on why they can’t connect quicker, getting kicked from one officer to the other (most of them don’t know the difference between the BSNL internal INTRANET and DataOne Internet – it’s quite like the BCCI). But once it’s up, it’s up for good.

    In the 3 months that I have been using it, never had a single disconnection. Though it’s not advisable to check the speed and get totally disheartened, it works which I think under the present scenario is important. From the looks of it, Tata Indicom is just some cheap fraud company. I had sent a cheque to Tata Broadband for an unlimited connection, and I guess it was good fortune that I got my Dataone connection the very next day, I let go of the TBB idea. It’s going to take a long long time for the revolution to kick in, as with mobile telephony..

    I bought TATA Indicom Broadband connection on March 1st. My area is Coimbatore, RS Puram. After wiring, they said within half an hour the connection will be throughed. But after 96 hours I got the connection. Meantime I enquired my nearby areas. All are going well. In some area these problem exists frequently. Better to consult an astrologist and have a connection in better area. You should predit yourself the area which is not affected by TATA services. Then for 25 days there is no problem. Now, for the past 30 hrs the connection has been cut. After screwing the customer care, Field Manager, Service Engineer the service is resumed. You should bark like anything, otherwise these people won’t respect you.

    my tata vsnl broadband connection was disconnected in 2004 due to excess billing and i paid my total dues and i have given there modem back also . suddenly this week(30/03/2007) after 3 years i am receiving a notice from lawyer on behalf of tata vsnl broadband to pay 3500 /- dues or else i will sued and made to pay with all fines ?

    These fellows are BIGGEST FUCKERS IN INDIA

    please do take there connection even if given free .

    please advice me how to reply to this lawyers notice ?

    Unfortunately I am an user of Tata Indicom Broadband,

    I took this connection on 8th march 2007, and since then there has not been a single day when the connection had worked properly, its so unreliable that even if the field engineer comes and rectifies the problem , it doesn’t work for more than half day.

    I tried contacting their field engineer Mr darshan, Then I tried contacting Mr. Ravi supposedly the manager for this region, who doesn’t even bother to pick up my calls, inspite of calling him several times, he never responded to my calls.
    Now its been 6 days since my broadband connection is not working, I contacted customer care cell couple of times who assured me of prompt service and gave me a complaint No every time, , but again no solution, my connection is still not working. I am thoroughly disappointed by this attitude and service of tata indicom, and when I ask to disconnect my account then I am told that the four months advance I gave is nonrefundable. I am again not able to understand that why should I pay for a service which I am not able to use.

    Is this what Tata as a company stands for. And tata Indicom who claims to provide best service.

    I am from Pune and having a prepaid broadband connection of Tata which worked for initial few weeks and after that the link down started too frequently almost 4 times in 10 minutes.
    After a long chase up and lot of complaint with lots bad word they fixed it and finally I could use that connection effectly for 2 months out of 6 months and now I am following for past one week for the extension as validity has expired. But their renewal dept keeps calling If I want to renew the connection and they deliver the renewal pack in an hour. What a service!

    Thats the TATA as it means TA-TA after taking the money.

    I am a customer of Tata Indicom and I have their broad band internet connection at my home. I have had a problem since the 13 th of April with the ASDL connection being down and not being able to connect to the net. I have made several calls to the customer care number (complaint number 2128998) and to my disappointment and disgust, nobody made an attempt to rectify the problem. I guess the customer care agents are appointed to do just a bit of lip service.

    Forget rectifying the problem, what is making matters worse is that in spite of having received my complaint about the connection being down, they have emailed me the bill which of course I would not have accessed as I cannot connect to the net!! And they now have the gall to suspend my connection because of non payment! This is the sorry state of affairs at Tata Indicom and this is the state of their pathetic customer service
    ONE OF LOUSY SERVICE EVER I EXPRINCED……KEEP IT UP TATA INDICOM.

    Iam also one of you. but guess iam double dumb to trust 2 internet service providers and got cheated by both of them. however iam working as tech engineer in a soft company in delhi( think iam smart).

      I subscribed to mtnl broadband in nov 2006 and airtel broad band in december 2006 at my address. had 2 broadband running at same time.
       about mtnl broadband. i subscribed to 250 combo plan in november 2006. had 256 kbps speed. was getting good results for speed in intial 10 days around 212-230 kbps. decided to change my plan to 599 night unlimited for broadband and 99 rupees for phone because when to change the combo plan you have to apply for 2 plans independly.
       that was the end of my joy. first they did'nt change my plan in nov or december. they changed plan for broadband in jan. changed phone plan in march. and when i called to their 1500 no. they kept telling me that u have still 250 plan. there website kept showing that i still have 250 plan.
      and received no bill for jan and feb. when received bill for march in april i was stunned to find that they are charging me at rs 1500 to 2000 monthly. for jan feb and march. they disconnected my phone for non payment on 19th of march. iam complaint to them gave applications and they say that still application is still in system and going through one dept to another. still iam running from 1 dept to another for mtnl.
     so 1st don;t go for MTNL.
    

    2ND
    AIRTEL
    subscribed in dec 2006 to 250 combo with night topup. they also gave good speed in intial days in december so decided to go for unlimited plan. service wise they are ok as they did it imidiately with a day or 2. but speed was reduced to 128. so moved back to 256. but their bills were also somewhat irregular. 30 rs for calling tune which never subscribed. got complaint no. but no result for months even after chasing them repetedly over the phone.
    but worst part is that which u people know or not.
    in december 2006 on 26 of december there was a earthquake in taiwan and there underwater lines were damaged. as a result of this broadband speed was affected greatly for 1 month until 21st jan. airtel said each service provider is facing that issue but mtnl was’nt. i complaint about that repeatedly. got service engineers also. they agreed on slow speed. but never got any compensation.
    so in month of feb asked for disconnection. disconnection was done but still iam getting bills of some charge called as reactivation charge.

    CONCLUSION: do not subscribe to any post paid broadband or phone service.

    WE ALL GUYS SHOULD DESIGN A BROADBAND GRIVENCE WEBSITE.

    i had the unlimited connection for 14 months (plan tariff 1000 + tax)
    i was getting the speed in the daytime varying between 13-18 Kbps but in the night after 10.00 pm it was aroung 23-27 Kbps i was satisfied – but now what they did they reniwed my unlimited and i started to get the speed of 8Kbps flat (no ups ) totally static
    i called the customer care only to be told that they had the ‘Back end’ issue and techs working on it
    so gone were 4 days – same state ! i got frustated – i called the customer care to be told that my plan is unlimited (up to 32Kbps and it’s unlimited – if i wanted assured speed i’d take their ‘Happy hours’ pack which has the cap of 150MB / day and (10.pm – 8 pm – unlimited no cap) spped assured at 32Kbps !

    The growth of broadband in india speaks volumes that we have to live with reality -” that we are a third world F****ing country – where devalopment and percolation/spead /accessing of technology in the society takes place at a pathetic pace may be our generations have to wait million years to have the eventual broadband of 5 Mbps – unlimited !

    Here assured speed of 32Kbps (i.e 256 kbps) unlimited is at an affordable rate is a Utopia – be it tata indicom / airtel / sify – they all suck / F**k

    Guess ! i have to wait and accept the f**king speed that the sify is providing (48kbps -(8.01 am- 10.00pm)) afterall the mother fuckers are giving me – UNLIMITED downdload

    But guys – somebody tell those motherfuckers that 48kbps -(8.01 am- 10.00pm) -can you really download anything !

    So the connection ‘s (unlimited – upto 256 kb @ 1000+ tax) reality is :

    no downloads (8.01 am- 10.00pm) – you just surf / suck their (Sify’s) Shit
    and you pay 1000+ tax for their fucking plan ! but where is the alternative ?

    tata broadband – i totally doubt – they have dubious distinction of “VSNL” sarkari shit
    Airtel – they do not operate in our area

    No fucking competition is what ‘s making the Sify earn mega bucks for now !

    I hate to call myself an Indian

    guys ! i am writing this because of sheer frustation / angst – as we still live in the protectionist regime – despite that blinding Globalisation shit ( in India)

    This is Manish Puranik, Proprietor of ‘Maitra Communication’.

    I have a cyber café with the name of Netsession at Kothrud, Pune.

    The internet connection for this café is from Tata Indicom Broadband, previously Dishnet and VSNL prior to that.

    I have this connection since it was VSNL i.e. 5 years back.

    On 15th May 2007 I have deposited the Cheque No. 608756, drawn on Bank of Maharashtra, Mayur Colony, Kothrud, Pune; dated 16 May 2007 of amount 1740/- on account of the monthly bill for the month of May 2007, in the ICICI Cheque Drop Box at Damodar Villa, Opp. Kothrud Bus Stand, Kothrud, Pune, as usual.

    Now the issues are –

    • My connection has been suspended due to nonpayment of the last bill?!?
    • This is THIRD time this kind of thing has happened in last three years?!?
    • Your Customer Care numbers keep changing every now and then and after exploring for the changed numbers what customer arrives at is a message ‘the number is busy’.
    • Once you get through this you have to take a difficult game of making choices to talk to an actual living being that ‘sincerely’ apologizes for your inconvenience and loads you with a lot of promises, but never explains why on earth that inconvenience was caused in the first place and whose responsibility is it anyway?
    • If you do not have any foolproof proven system for collection and reflection of bill payments what is a customer supposed to do?
    • Once you say that the cheque should be dropped at so and so place, and then you send an executive to collect the cheque at customer’s place. Again these collection agencies also keep changing constantly and you never know whom to call and where to pay?
    • If you are the monopoly in the ISPs of India and do not need customers or do not give a damn for customer care why are you investing heavily in making a brand image and projecting wrong impression of your services for the new prospective customers and misguiding them?
    • Shouldn’t your manner and reactions towards the faithful and loyal customers in particular and to everybody in general be somewhat polite and kind?
    • How you are going to compensate for the loss of reputation of the customer and agony undergone by him due to the stupid mistakes and disorganization which is none of his business?
    • I am not receiving the monthly bills by post since a year and if you have a tendency to disconnect the connection frequently without any reasons how am I supposed to update my account status? By visiting another café?!?

    I am expecting an instant resolution and written and detailed explanation for all the above issues at the earliest.

    Guys, I don’t know about other cities. But in Kolkata, Tata Indicom Broadband rocks!
    I am using Unlimites 256kbps plan since September’2006 (after using dataone for 6 months) and believe me guys i didn’t find a single day blackout! I regularly download and my average monthly usage is 55-60GB (both download-upload due to torrents ;-) ).

    But again , this is the situation in Kolkata, I do not know about other cities.

    What a dumb stupid retart he is.. i just can’t understand that what charm we all indians get by just boosting some stupid make up stories.. A STUPID RETART WITH A 256 SPEED AND UNLIMITED DOWNLOAD AND DOWNLOADS ON AN AVERAGE 55-60 GB… WHAT THE HELL ARE IDIOT OR WHAT AIRIJIT (OR WHATEVER UR NAME IS) I HAVE 5 DIFFERENT FILE SHARING APPZ INCLUDING TORRENTS ONE TOO AND SAME SCHEME FOR THE INTERNET AND ON AN AVERAGE A MOVIE OF 699MB TAKES ENTIRE DAY TO DOWNLOAD… AND IF WE DO THE MATH 256/8 GIVES US MAX 32KBS SPEED AND YOU MORON JUST GO AHEAD AND CLAIM SOME STUPID STORIES.. I COULD HAVE UNDERSTOOD WITH 2 MBS BUT WITH 256 KBS… HA… GET A LIFE YOU STUPID MORON…….

    I have been using Sify Broadband at home.
    It is very pathetic, when I download any files from internet
    the download speed is 10 kb /sec. I have a unlimited
    256 Kbps plan and I pay Rs.1222 /- per month.

    When I speak to customer care they are asking me
    to migrate to a bigger plan with a dedicated bandwith..
    which is really stupid..!!!!

    Really hopeless service.
