The Sify broadband India-wide scam

Since my bad experience with Sify, I have been looking around for other similar complaints against Sify. It turns out that they have been running a country-wide racket.

  • Ankur Raheja has filed a case against Sify broadband for losses due to downtime and misleading claims in their advertisements. Take a look at the comments on that page – Chandigarh, Chennai, Bangalore… every city has a problem with Sify. (Thanks to Puneet for the link)
  • Sify Broadband CTOs are freaking liars : Sushub talks of his Sify broadband experiences which are identical to mine with both Sofy broadband and Hotwire Internet.

    My name is Pallav and I am a subscriber for Sify Broadband services for the last few months. I am not able to use the internet during this week, courtesy my Local Service Provider, whom I have called and requested several times to resolve the problem but he has shown an indifferent attitude towards my problem.
    As per them,Last week some one stole the Internet wire during the night, as a result of which I am not able to access the internet.
    I made so many calls to your customer care regarding when they will resolve this issue , but to my utter surprise instead of co-operating with me they are raising fingers at me only and making false promises to me that problem will be resolved very soon.
    It seems they are least bothered with the problem I, as a customer is facing, They are even asking for money for putting in a new cable,as according to them its not their responsibility if wire gets stolen, and I am really disappointed with their attitude regarding this whole episode as they have not shown any concern regarding the problems I am facing.

    As a result I am doing my project work at cyber cafes and unnecessarily paying them Despite the fact that I had already paid you for my internet connection and it is gross negligence on part of you for making me bear these undesired expenses and wastage of time in going outside.
    If any theft happens I am not responsible for the same as I am paying you only for the services provided by you and as a subscriber i am not responsible for any mishappening at the most I can take care of wiring which I did.
    I warn you here that I my problem is not resolved within 24 hours I shall be forced to file a complaint against you in consumer forum for negligence of duty on your part and I am approaching my lawyer for the same.your callous attitude has mentally harassed me and caused inconvenience to me and I am going to take serious action against it if my problem is not addressed in time.

    this in your support, the sify broadband connection really ScKS, there is one operator called ganesh cables in rajajinagar, bangalore. if any one is wishing to damage call me also. the bloody connection gets disconnected every 1 and half hour and look at the speed 100kbps for 256kbps.
    the worst cable operators who never listen and the customer care only note down complaints.
    please dont take sify conection- atleast in bangalore

    Sify has a domain selling business too.I sent them a draft after making necessary enquiries for a domain purchase and they called me one day telling me that the draft should be in the name ‘Sify Limited’ instead of ‘Sify Shopping’ that i got from their site.I requested them to send me back the dd so that i can change it at my local bank.They never did it.They might be saving the postal charge or some f**kng employee might have taken the cash without delivering the product.Anyway they didn’t send it.I called mailed and complained them.But later they told they didn’t recieve the dd.Then how come a sify ‘executive’ called me about the error.
    There is something wrong with sify in the way they do their business.

    I had tataindicom broadband, the speed use to fine as long as connection is fine. But moment once connections drop, that’s it its hell, you will end up spending on making calls to thier customer support who takes weeks to solve the probem (remember not days).
    Later I changed my isp to sify, which is another blunder I made, which turns out to be worse than earlier one.
    In the phone thay said installation charge is Rs.1500 but when the guy came to collect cheque asks for Rs.2000.
    They are very fast in collecting fee and getting connection, but after that its pain dealing with them. It simply doesnt work and getting hold of them to solve is nightmare. All the time you call, they give false promises and giving weauge reasons.
    I took 256kps but when i download anything it doesnt cross 25kps at any time and if there are more downloads at same time, then this 25kps is shared among all making it to between 5 to 11 kbps.
    to my knowledge sify is the wrost I even seen.

I went on continuously complaining against such unfair practices with customer care. I after almsot six months I got a reply that my local network cable operator wants separate money from me. I was told by the company that Now I need to pay him separately for resuming the services. I am very badly cheated by the company, I trusted. I want to file cheating case against the company unders IPC section 406 ( Breach of trust ) and 420 ( Cheating ). If any one know how to go about kindly help me.

    Myself Anjali B Balani would like to share with you my experiences with sify broadband.
    I have filed following complaint with chief customer care sify broadband. I am planning to file a criminal complaint against sify broadband for cheating me. All my money around Rs. 2350.00 have gone to the drains. This money I had paid through e-card in the month of Juanuary and I was told that this sixth months paln will expire on 28th July 2007. But unfortunately, I lost the connectivity within few days. I went on complaining against the company. Now when I insisted to connect the connection and explain the reasons, they came with the funny responses that the local network provider is to be paid first. Here I would like to ask, how can company cheat and introduce new terms and dectect terms to the customers and ask for extra money to the customers without giving services to the customers. I feal I am cheated by the company. I must file criminal complain against the company. Kindly suggest in the matter how to go about the same. I have written following letter to the customer care of the company and awaiting for reply.
    Respected Sir,
    I was your regular customer and your local agents’ attitude towards services was not proper. So I thought why to not take approach directly to the company to pay my subscription fee for six month, which I paid through e-card in the month of January 2007. Suddenly to my surprise company stopped giving me services with ought my knowledge. I thought that there is network problem. I went on complaining continuously with the local customer care on 261 77460 for registering my complain. But they failed to reply why my connection was not working. When I got angry on one of them on phone. One of them confessed that local cable network person Sonu wants his share, which according to him I had not paid to him, had switch off the network connection. Sir, here I want to submit that if any how if the local area agent is so powerful to decide whether the connection is to be continued or not. If any how he is authorised by you to act like that. It means you have appointed GUNDAS (Unfortunately he is my neighbour every day he visits my place ten times a day, but never said that he is the culprit and wants money for his share)at local level to extort their share of money from your customers. If I had to pay the money to that your GUNDA for subscription then company is accepting such subscription by e-card. I think your dual policies are responsible for such complications in providing services to the customer. Why don’t to clarify on net that If You will pay by e-card you will be required to pay separately to your LOCAL GUNDAS for availing services. When I continuously argued at your customer care centre at Mumbai regarding this matter, I will told by your person, that we have taken our money, now it is local GUNDS’s turn to extract money from you. If you want you connection to be reconnected you have to approach that GUNDA (Sonu) will decide now to reconnect my connection or not. Here I want to say you that I haven’t paid money to that GUNDA (SONU, the local operator. I have paid money to you. You are responsible to provide me services for the charges I have paid to you. It is none of my business to approach to your local GUNDAS for paying them ransom to reconnect my connection. Why you not disclosed this fact on the net that If customers will pay directly to the company subscription for net services they will have to pay again to local GUNDAS again under different headings. Sir, If you want to run this company, you need to look very seriously in such matters and solve customer grievances by abolishing dual policies made by your company.
    At last, I want to alarm, warn to you that If you will ignore this complain as your subordinates have done in past, you will invite more problems in this case. I have undergone and have studied the cases against your company. and also have downloaded judgments of the cases you lost in the court of law. I am studying cyber-laws and crimes. Very soon you will come to know that I have filed case against you in the consumer court. Further, as other customers who have successfully won cases against you in the court of laws, as they have written blogs against your company’s services. I will also join with such customers and launch campaign against such customer unfriendly policies. It was very terrific to know that local person want his share of money and has disconnected the connection. It was very shocking to know from your customer care.
    Kindly do something in this matter, other wise face in the consumer court.

    I stay at BTM 1st stage, B’lore and really fed up with the services given by local operators/so called franchisee (Mr. Yusuf Khan).. they operate as they like and charge whatever they want for installation. the broadband does not work for at least 10-15 days in a month.. in spite of recurring complaints made to Sify customer care, they have not been able to resolve issues with their own operators..
    Neither dealer (Yusuf Khan) picks up the phone nor replies to messages.. I was told by Sify that they had few internal conflicts with that useless dealer .. but after all the customers are getting affected.. Sify Customer Care line is also useless .. their call remains on hold for most of the time when you call (at least 10-15 mins) and then it gets disconnected.. PATHETIC service.. I would not blame dealer but would blame SIFY since they have to ensure they have good dealers with a good service attitude.
    Our Broadband is not working from last 20 days. ERROR BB108. Numerous complaints done to Sify customer care number.. with no luck and response.
    SIFY IS A BIG CHEAT.

    Am I glad to have found your post and all the comments on it…feels like I’ve found a long lost family :-) after all the frustration I’ve endured (and still going through) at the hands of Sify broadband….Advertised as “Sify Broadband, For Those Who Hate To Wait”, there could be nothing more ironic, as the only thing they make you do is wait and wait and wait…I took a broadband “unlimited” connection a month ago, and since then, have not been able to download any large files (as in more than 30 mb)…the download just starts and doesn’t progress…When I called the Sify, the first time they sent thier technician over and he claimed our pc OS was corrupted, so I reformatted the PC. Still, the problem continued, so called Sify again. The same technician comes over and this time claims the problem is with our LAN card, and not the OS, as he had previously so confidently alleged! So we changed our LAN card..and does the problem resolve? Heck, no! We have been calling the Sify customer care since September 4th, and its September 10th now, and still no solution! In between, on September 6th, the Sify local business agent comes to our house, checks the system and says the problem is outside his domain and he would call the Sify technician, and he disappears without a trace after that! When I called customer care after that, they said a report had been filed that the local agent had come to my house and fixed the problem! Well, no it wasn’t fixed! So I call again, and then I get an sms yesterday that the problem has been resolved, please check. But the problem is still there! I call Sify customer care again and each time they tell me someone will fix the problem and it hasn’t been fixed for the last one week! All this when I pay 840 rupees a month for unlimited broadband..Am I not been looted when I pay the full amount but cannot use the package to its full capacity? Now, after reading all the other customer reviews, I am seriously considering suing them and switching to Airtel maybe…

    i gt my sify connection 3 weeks back and i was connected to the net for about 6-7 days in total.at all other times i got this error 534-machine id is different than one registered with us….i hv clld up customer care and they say its some security prob…but wudn’t elaborate. They restore connection immediately and say the problemz fixed but the same thing hppns the next day only.Cn someone xplain what this error means…????i hv had it with the local customer care service-they say they’ll send someone within an hour..they haven’t in 3 weeks…

    I got youtele connection in 2005. for the past 2 years i have no problem at all. they got some good offers too. go for suvida plan. 1GB-2Mbps 250RS and 2.5GB for RS 500.you can also visit http://www.youtele.com .Instead of local office youcan call centre.

    I got a sify connection 1 month back after disconnecting the mtnl bb as landline had to be removed and sify sucks big time.In a one month time only i have registered almost 500 complaints.Again switching back to mtnl.

    Hotwire customer care sucks, my friend in delhi had a connection of hotwire unlimited form more than a month, suddenly the “Ani Cyber Zone

    who provide hotwire conection cuts the connection and say theres a fault ur connection cant be repaired for few days may be a month also. they have taken the mothlty payment as always in advance, and still they behave like we are not supposed to call them to ask when will it be repiared and just wait for connection. Customer care says talk to ur local provider and local providers say talk to the customer care. Pls dont take connections from them if u thinking to take those who are planning, cos they will just disconnect after advance payments and wont give a simple reason and no connection. Does anyone know who to talk to sue these guys

    BSNL dataone BB, I heard is very good, but 1nce your connection is down, then calling up their call centre & lady

    knows only 1 thing, switch off/on your modem to get the sync/link light (i heard from some1). technical support is

    very weak & takes ages to get your connection back.
